Raidho, the Rune of Movement

Meaning: riding Phonetic equivalent: 'r'

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem

Riding seems easy to every warrior while he is indoors
and very courageous to him who traverses the high-roads
on the back of a stout horse.

Norwegian Rune Poem
Riding is said to be the worst of things for horses;
Reginn forged the finest sword.

Icelandic Rune Poem

Riding
joy of the horseman
and speedy journey
and toil of the steed.

Raidho
Cala Gobraith, 2009

Raidho- traveler's gift;
rapid or slow, pick your
route- movement-
riding through life at one's own
respective pace- set the
rhythm and let it go, let it flow,
round and round to dance, ever moving forward.

To Krasskova, Raidho represents forward movement, the expansion of energy and journeying.

For Aswynn, Raidho is a rune of transportation, journeying, travel of any sort, creating movement, especially forward motion, taking charge of a situation, travel and moral responsibility.  To her it also represents the journey of life and the direction you choose to travel in it.

Francis Melville considers change of direction, movement, travel, progress, relocation, habit breaking, rhythm, ritual and sacred journey, personal destiny and spiritual quest to be aspects of the rune Raidho. He sees this rune as being useful assistance in getting out of a rut. Associations: deity- Thor, tree- oak, plant- arnica, animal- goat, bird- eagle, zodiac/astrology- Jupiter/Sagittarius, color- bright red, element- fire/air.

Oswald considers Raidho to express such elements as journeys, arrival/departure, union or re-union, travel and methods of such and progress. Associations: deity- Ing, Nerthus, tree- oak, plant- mugwort, zodiac- Sagittarius, color- bright red, element- air, stone- chrysophase.

Paxson considers this rune to represent both the act of moving and the vehicle that carries that which is moved, journeys , organizations or people working together and change and movement, especially movement from chaos to order.

I see this rune as movement, travel, journeying, movement forward physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually and progress.

Meditation associations: Any kind of movement or means thereof, also- the stubborn determination that keeps one moving forward long after others have given up, here in association with Uruz and Tyr, Motivation, travel, riding, dusty roads, kinetic energy, atoms spinning.
