****New Content Added Daily****

Meaning: elk    Phonetic equivalent: 'z'

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem

The elk-sedge is to be mostly found in the marsh;
it grows in the water and makes a ghastly wound,
covering with blood every warrior who
touches it.

Elhaz
Cala Gobraith, 2009

Elhaz- essence of protection- strength of
elk, strength of elephant,
enfolding and wrapping one in a warm
elastic net of safety and security.
Elemental elhazi- enveloping and
embracing in earthen sanctuary so as to
enable secure growth and well-being.

Galina Krasskova sees this rune as protection, as a shield and as containing both nurturing and protective qualities. She suggests that Elhaz caan add protective strength to a healing.

Aswynn sees Elhaz as protection and defense, hallowing, warding and access to higher spiritual awareness.

To Melville, Elhaz represents protection, sanctuary, prayer, friendship, trust, mystical communication with the divine, guardian spirits, the absorption of protective cosmic energy and faith in the divine. Associations: deity- Heimdall, tree- yew, plant- angelica, animal- elk, bird- dove, zodiac- Virgo, color- gold, element- earth/air.

Oswald sees in Elhaz aspects such as opportunity for growth, rapid development, protection, and safe refuge. Associations: deity- Heimdall, tree- service tree, plant- elk sedge, zodiac- Cancer, color- gold, element- air, stone- amethyst.

Paxson considers Elhaz a rune of protection, a link between the natural and divine worlds, the integration of spirit and matter and partnership with totemic allies.

I see Elhaz as a rune of protection and defense. I also see a darker side of this rune in keeping things locked up or locked in so that they/it cannot escape.
Meditation associations: Snow, cold, briars, snorting horses, pitchfork, bird talons, reefs, glass, keys, cages, panic.
