Eihwaz, the Rune of Connection

****New Content Added Daily****

Meaning: yew   Phonetic equivalent: 'ei'

Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem

The yew is a tree with rough bark,
hard and fast in the earth, supported by its roots,
a guardian of flame and a joy upon an estate.

**This rune has no Norwegian or Icelandic poems.

Eihwaz
Cala Gobraith, 2009

Eihwaz- reflections of mind and body,
earth and sky, each an echo of the other,
emanations of the One.
Enchanting eihwazi who seek to aid
expression and spiritual evolution,
encouraging and engineering enlightenment and
equilibrium between all parts of one's essence.

Among the things Krasskova sees Eihwaz as a reservoir of energy, a manifestation of Yggdrasil, the World Tree and learning to journey and act within.

Aswynn considers Eihwaz as representing the world of nature, the World Tree, Yggdrasil as a yew tree and as the Cosmic Axis, life/death and that which lies between them, longevity, the mysteries of life, endurance, initiation, melding and transcending of extreme opposites and as a place of balance.

For Melville, aspects of this rune include flexibility, endurance, protection, change, empowerment, problem-solving, psychic protection, spiritual attainment and symbolic death, such as the end of a relationship. Associations: deity- Odin, tree- yew, plant- mandrake, animal- hedgehog, bird- heron, zodiac- Scorpio, color- black, element- earth.

To Oswald, Eihwaz represents  yew trees, the archer's bow, weapons, magick, deflection, prevention, transformation and acceptance of change. Associations: deity- Ullr, tree- yew, plant- lilac, color- magenta, element- fire, earth, water, air, stone- topaz.

Paxson sees this rune as representing Yggdrasil, the World Tree, shamanic journey pathways, a link between heaven and earth, paradox and connections between opposites.

I see Eihwaz as reflection, mirroring and contemplation.

Meditation associations: reflection, World Tree, shadow-self, rippling waters, the Gates Beyond, the Web of Being, 'All is One, One is All', a reminder of the spirituality in everything that exists.
